Now Is The Time

Stakeholders came out in force in December and January to demonstrate what they did not want. Now we need stakeholders (you and your friends and neighbors) to speak out about what we DO want. If stakeholders do not show up, the BOE and the community may take this as a sign that we do not care about what happens next, that we do not care about who leads our district, that we do not care about our kids education.

We know a lot of people DO really care - and NOW is the time to show it! The Beacon City School District and ABS have several events planned in the next month, all of which are geared toward community engagement in improving our schools.

For a full list & description of upcoming events, please visit our ONLINE CALENDAR here: http://www.advocates12508.com/events-calendar.html

Below are THIS WEEK’s events - WE NEED YOUR HELP to advertise them widely: in the school yard, in the supermarket, on social media, on the street - everywhere - and we need to see you in attendance!
April 26 - TONIGHT - BOE Meeting and discussion of superintendent
This Tuesday's BOE meeting there will be a separate comment period workshop, 3 minute max statements, about important qualities in a superintendent. Max 30 minutes.
April 27 - TOMORROW - BCSD Vision Forum
This Wednesday, a Vision Forum is being sponsored by the District. No one has the whole vision. Come with your little piece, be it a specific class, a method of teaching, possibilities for communicating, etc. Your input is important. We need lots of participants and witnesses; this event will NOT be videotaped for later viewing!
  • All members of the Beacon City School District community (students, families, staff, taxpayers)  are invited to attend a forum to discuss the revision of the District Vision Statement.  This forum will take place on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at Beacon High School.
  • Please R.S.V.P. to help the district determine the appropriate meeting room. Either call Mrs. Theresa Simone at (845) 838-6900 ext. 2010 or send an email to simone.t@beaconk12.org.
  • We encourage parents with children going to private schools to come to the Vision forum and talk about what would attract them to send their kids to BCSD.
We are all in this together.  Our school district belongs to Beacon’s stakeholders - let’s take ownership and invest a little bit of time to make it the best it can be. Thanks for listening, now please act. Talk it up, come tonight and tomorrow, and share this email.  And Remember to VOTE on May 17th for School Board, voting will take place at the Beacon High School.

We CAN do this. Thank you!
